Collection
As one of our assignments here, we have to come up with three sentences consisting of six words and then use at least one of them to create stuff. I've been rolling around some ideas in my head and i think my first sentence is going to be.. "Sometimes I like to collect things." Might perhaps change the wording of it but the heart of the idea is collection. Even back home, I've done a lot of collection, from notes to wood scraps and anything that strikes me. At the school they have a junk pile filled with scraps of wood, metal, tires, etc. Even bikes. I thought about trying to take some of the bikes apart but they're all pretty rusted up and there's not really the proper tools here. (It makes me miss my bike shop boys.) I did manage to find a bike seat already separated, and a paint pealing wood, and a wavy piece of fiberglass. And a long the shore last night I found some glass, cool rocks, and chunks of clay pots. I'm not sure what i'm doing with anything yet but i'm going to keep collecting things that speak to me. Might be cool to make a box or some way of holding and displaying my collections. I also think I want to do more acrylic prints with some of the photos i've been taking. Again, not sure what i'll do from there but maybe something will hit me later.

The Burren
After a week of traveling around London and Dublin, I've made it here to the Burren and the little town Ballyvaughan. The town has already exceeded my expectations. It reminds me a bit of Scotland but even more rural and rocky than any of the places I visited there. The town is nestled in a valley between gorgeous hills of stone and only a short walk to the water. The school is a bit of a hike down a narrow windy road. But it's a beautiful walk none the less. Plus there's a shuttle van. All in all, it's a beautiful place to be and i'm in awe every time I look around.
As far as my artwork goes, I'm still unsure of what I want to focus on. We talked about place and space today and Bachelard's theories about one's connection to home. That got me thinking about my sense of home and how I don't really have a place that I feel strongly rooted in. Home for me has become my possessions that evoke an emotion of familiarity and comfort. I'm not sure how I would work that into a project. Especially not really having many of those objects with me to work from.
